Visual Arts Scholarship 2022
I have always enjoyed mentoring and helping women recognize, harness, and utilize their talents and resources for the betterment of themselves and their communities. By creating community through art, education and social activism.
In 2020 during the height of the Black Lives matter myself and the community outreach board of the Women Caucus for Art of DC, wanted to give back to the women of color in underprivileged communities. We implemented a fundraising through a call of entry called "See My Color," WCADC’s Social Justice Art Exhibition. "See My Color" explored artists' relationships with racial injustice, police brutality, and criminal justice reform through visual art. The show confronted the current social injustices surrounding the deaths of people of color in the United States by law enforcement, as well as systemic racism as a whole. The entry fees funded an Art scholarship for a woman-identifying Black, Indigenous and, People of color (BIPOC). WCADC matched up to $1000 toward the scholarship!
For 2022 WCADC will award up to two scholarships (in the amount of $2,000-4000) WCADC will make the necessary arrangements to transfer the scholarship funds directly to the college or university of the student’s choice.
